MD in the community
As a physician, you play an essential role in your community. Every day, you care for others and put their needs ahead of your own. You should expect that same kind of social commitment from the companies you choose to work with.
We share your commitment to community. Here are some of the ways that MD Financial Management and its employees are working hard to make a difference here in Canada and around the world:
MD is committed to delivering superior long-term investment performance in a responsible manner. Informed by the values of physicians and their families, we evaluate environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) risk across our client portfolios.
Reflecting our firm commitment to conscientious investing, we are a proud signatory of the United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Investment. The key principles encourage investors to incorporate ESG factors into investment decisions to better manage risk and generate sustainable, long-term returns that contribute to a more prosperous world for all.
We champion these principles in MD’s Responsible Investing policy.
There is clear scientific consensus that the world’s climate is changing — and that the changes are having an impact on public health worldwide. We’re committed to reducing our environmental footprint across our operations and are focused on corporate policies that help protect our planet.
Our commitment includes signing a declaration supporting improved disclosure by Canada’s public companies about the impact they have on climate change. The declaration was prepared by the Responsible Investment Association in conjunction with Finance Montréal.
Serving physicians across the country affords MD the opportunity to play an active role in communities coast to coast. That includes giving our employees every opportunity to make a difference by choosing the most energy-efficient way to contribute to our team including:
- Telework
Allowing employees to work from home cuts carbon emissions from commuting, can lead to increased productivity and lowers the cost of operating our network of offices. - Reduced business travel
The use of Smart Boards and video conferencing reduces the need for business travel. - Alternative transportation incentives
Head Office employees receive a monthly incentive to walk, run, cycle or take public transit to work instead of driving.
Good corporate citizenship matters to us. At a company and individual employee level, we’re teaming up to do our part:
- Corporate giving
MD Financial Management and its employees give generously to the United Way, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières. - Individual commitment
Across Canada, in 54 regional offices, employees are given the support and time required to donate generously to local causes, including food banks, emergency shelters, dragon boat races, fundraising runs and much more.
