Long before she picked up a stethoscope, Dr. Prasad A. had a deep love of music and dance — creative pursuits that shaped the way she viewed the world. That blend of creativity and curiosity first sparked an interest in aerospace and later evolved into a passion for medicine, where she found an opportunity to combine discovery with human connection.

While both fields appealed to her analytical mindset, medicine offered the opportunity to pair scientific discovery with the human connection she valued. During her clinical clerkship, as she rotated through various specialties, she discovered that the practice of medicine is shaped by far more than textbook knowledge. It also requires emotional resilience, collaboration, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with patients.

She has carried that perspective into her practice. “Being a doctor is an opportunity to make a lasting impact,” Dr. Prasad A. says, recognizing that improving clinical outcomes is only one part of the role. Recognizing that medicine extends far beyond clinical metrics, she emphasizes the deeply human side of her work. “Our role is to help patients navigate their conditions and stand by them through uncertainty. That grounding presence allows them to make informed decisions about their own care”.

Looking back on her own journey, Dr. Prasad A. believes one of the most important lessons for medical students is understanding that medicine is not defined by knowledge alone — it is defined by how that knowledge is applied. “It’s not always about how much you know. It’s about how you apply that knowledge to the reality in front of you — embracing uncertainty and tailoring care to the unique patient you are serving.”

Caring for patients from a wide range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds has reinforced for Dr. Prasad A. how deeply those realities shape people's health, their access to care and their ability to navigate the health-care system.

“I believe equity has to be part of the way we deliver care [as well as] understanding that each person’s needs, experiences and circumstances are different,” she says.

For Dr. Prasad A., equity is not simply an ideal, it is a responsibility woven into the practice of medicine. That commitment has taken her beyond the clinic, where she has volunteered with underserved communities both at home and abroad. Yet she is quick to recognize that meaningful change is never achieved alone.

“No one succeeds alone. I see myself as part of a broader community where everyone has an important role to play. We achieve success when we support one another and create opportunities for those around us to succeed. I’m just one piece of a much bigger puzzle.”

Financial literacy is an essential skill for physicians, Dr. Prasad A. says, particularly as many graduate with significant debt and move directly into increasingly complex practice models.

Financial literacy, she adds, empowers physicians to make informed decisions that strengthen their long-term professional and personal well-being.

“It will allow physicians to focus more fully on patient care,” she says. “The financial side of medicine is something every physician must navigate, yet it’s often overlooked in training. Physicians need the tools to make informed decisions about their financial futures, from understanding contracts and managing debt to planning for long-term goals and it should be a greater priority in medical education.”

Her interest in serving on the MD Physician Council is a natural extension of her commitment to improving health care beyond practice. She sees the Council as an opportunity to bridge perspectives, bringing a thoughtful and collaborative approach to understanding what challenges physicians face and help build solutions that reduce stress, protect families and secure futures — allowing physicians to thrive and grow both in practice and in life at every career milestone.

At the heart of Dr. Prasad A.’s advocacy is a vital paradigm shift: replacing systemic administrative burden with streamlined, efficient workflows while embedding physician well-being in a core institutional strategy. Her guiding philosophy remains foundational: supporting physicians is ultimately essential to supporting patients.
