Our executive leadership team is comprised of experienced leaders who bring to MD a wide range of expertise and skills from many industries and disciplines including finance, technology and organizational effectiveness.


Brian Peters

Brian Peters

President and CEO

Brian Peters provides the vision and leadership that MD Financial Management needs to deliver on its mandate of assisting Canadian Medical Association members throughout their lifetime to achieve financial well-being, and build rewarding practices that deliver quality health care.

In 2006, Mr. Peters was chosen by the CMAH Board as the President and CEO of MD, based on his strong vision for the organization. He is steadfast in his belief that MD's ownership by the Canadian Medical Association uniquely positions MD to act in the best interests of clients, and to focus exclusively on helping physicians and their families. This conviction drives him to build stronger partnerships with the Canadian Medical Association and the provincial and territorial medical associations—all with the goal of delivering more significant value to members.

Mr. Peters started his career as a financial advisor at RBC Dominion Securities, moving steadily up the ranks to become President and CEO of RBC Dain Rauscher. There, he applied his strategic and business leadership to acquisition-based growth strategies.

Mr. Peters is a graduate of the University of Ottawa with a degree in Business Administration, holds a CFP designation, and is a member of the board of directors of the Investment Funds Institute of Canada and Opportunity International Canada.

François Durocher

François Durocher

Executive Vice President

François Durocher leads MD's Québec-based team of financial planners, advisors, specialists and support staff. He also develops unique approaches for the Québec market and inspires his team to both embody and deliver on the brand promise of enhancing physicians’ financial outcomes by focusing on their distinctive needs and operating in their best interests.

This inspiration comes from Mr. Durocher's long-held belief in putting client interests first. While building innovative sales strategies and trusted relationships between Québec’s healthcare stakeholders, his goal is to ensure that the CMA and MD meet the wants and needs of physicians in Québec in a way no one else can.

Mr. Durocher joined MD in February 2010, following 19 years at Desjardins Financial Security, a subsidiary of the largest financial cooperative organization in Canada. There, he held increasingly senior sales positions, becoming Vice President of Sales and Business Development, building successful business partnerships with large national financial institutions and cooperatives networks.

Mr. Durocher is an MBA graduate of Université de Sherbrooke, has a Bachelor of Science from Université de Montreal, and is a Certified Financial Planner and Financial Security Advisor.

Mike Gassewitz

Mike Gassewitz

Executive Vice President, Member Solutions

Mike Gassewitz is responsible for anticipating and meeting the needs of MD clients with best-in-class products and services. An experienced CEO and marketing leader with more than 20 years in the technology industry, he is responsible for driving product strategy, marketing programs and sales integration, as well as championing new opportunities to bring further value to CMA members.

Prior to joining MD, Mr. Gassewitz had an accomplished career in telecommunications and internet security. He built highly motivated teams and achieved outstanding success at Newbridge Networks and Alcatel-Lucent, and was CEO of Meriton Networks and Kindsight.

As the former CEO of an internet start-up, Mr. Gassewitz knows instinctively what it takes to be agile and to lead and compete with intensity. This agility enables him to drive product strategy so that more physicians can benefit from MD's best-in-class investment expertise, seize timely opportunities, pay lower fees and taxes, and achieve greater financial security.

In addition to being a seasoned executive, Mr. Gassewitz is a professional engineer, with a bachelor of applied science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Waterloo.

Daniel Labonté

Daniel Labonté

Executive Vice President, Member Experience

Daniel Labonté leads MD's national team of highly committed and skilled financial planners, advisors, specialists and support staff. He believes that leadership and continuous development of people is the key to delivering on MD’s commitment to operate in our clients’ best interests.

Mr. Labonté has gained deep leadership experience in the private, not-for-profit and public sectors over the past 30 years. Prior to joining MD, he led a number of international collaboration initiatives, including with the government of the People’s Republic of China. In his 15 years with MD Financial Management, he has led Marketing, Information Technology, Strategic Initiative and Financial Practice divisions. He was actively involved in a number of mergers and acquisitions (, Saxon Funds) and led Stratos Wealth Management, a successful pilot offering of financial services for non-physicians. He also managed MD’s first Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Saxon Financial Inc.

Mr. Labonté earned both a Bachelor of Science and an MBA from the University of Ottawa. He also achieved a Post-Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching from Royal Roads University and is a member of the International Coaching Federation.

Michelle Masson

Michelle Masson

Executive Vice President, Organization Experience

Michelle Masson is responsible for influencing the dimensions of strategy, performance, leadership and culture to engage employees, enabling them to deliver a superb client experience and strong business results.

After joining MD in 2009, Ms. Masson quickly became a driving force in the organization's transformation from a small business to a strategy-driven enterprise. With a passion for new and collaborative ways of working, her integrated approach helped unlock the organization's potential, and continues to create an environment in which employees build careers and physician clients build trusted, lifelong relationships.

Ms. Masson has 15 years of experience in the technology sector, starting at Fulcrum Technologies. There, she spurred the growth of the technology start-up and helped the organization reach maturity. As a Human Resources executive at DY 4, Ms. Masson reinvigorated the employer brand, enabling the company to attract desirable engineering talent in the midst of extreme scarcity. While a consultant, and ultimately CEO, at Reid Eddison Inc., she worked with high-tech companies to apply strategic planning to drive growth.

Ms. Masson attended the Rotman School of Management and holds a number of Human Resources certifications.

John Riviere

John Riviere

Chief Financial Officer
Executive Vice President of Organization Management

John Riviere provides financial stewardship for the organization, ensuring it remains financially stable while investing strategically to bring new value to CMA members. He oversees all aspects of financial reporting for the MD funds and PIM pools, regulatory compliance, and all tax and legal matters for the corporate group.

Mr. Riviere joined MD in 2012, bringing deep financial expertise and a strong member-value orientation. In his recent past, Mr. Riviere served as Senior Vice President and CFO for the Health Care of Ontario Pension Plan, one of the largest public pension plans in Canada. He has also held various roles within several large financial services institutions including CIBC, CIBC Mellon and Bank of Nova Scotia.

Mr. Riviere graduated from McMaster University (BCom, magna cum laude) in 1980 and earned his CA designation in 1982. He is also a graduate of the Wharton Business School, Advanced Management Program and is a Chartered Director (DeGroote School of Business).

Allison Seymour

Allison Seymour

Executive Vice President, Member and Community Engagement

Allison Seymour is responsible for leveraging the expertise and capabilities of MD’s Marketing, Client Experience and Partnership teams to create and foster connections within and across MD’s member, client and partner communities.

Ms. Seymour joined MD in 2004, and has held various leadership positions in the areas of Marketing, Client Experience, Operations and Strategy. She led the CMA Membership Marketing team to reach the 70,000 member milestone, led MD’s Trade Centre and Member Service Centre teams, as well as the Online Channel team. Ms. Seymour was also a core member of the Client Experience team, helping establish the strategy and programs that are foundational to MD’s growth. Most recently, she was Vice President, Partners and Alliances, working closely with the CMA and its subsidiary, Joule, to build high-value, long-term relationships with Provincial/Territorial Medical Association affiliates and other key organizations in the medical community.

Prior to joining MD, Ms. Seymour worked in high tech in various marketing, corporate development and HR roles. She has also worked for the Canadian federal government.

Ms. Seymour is a graduate of McGill University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, as well as the University of Ottawa, with an MBA. She is an advisory board member for the Canadian Association for Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM).
